Our Story and Belief in Engineering Knowledge

At first, we would like to share the story that led to the establishment of CivilTech. On June 23rd, 2012 (a sunny Saturday afternoon) the concrete roof of a shopping center called the “Algo Center” located in a beautiful city north of Ontario-Elliot Lake, collapsed. It caused some casualty and complete shutdown to most of the businesses in that city including the Service Canada and some financial offices located at the mall. CivilTech ‘s CEO (Ahmad Shahroodi) was one of the first engineers presented on seen to conduct the required forensic investigation of the building structural failure. Since the first time he visited the building and collapsed parts, a question of preventing such sad events had occupied his mind. he tried to find the answer every second he was spending there. It was after the 10th day, when other investigators and him headed back to their Ottawa office to finalize their report for submission, that he started to find the answer. To prevent that kind of sad incident in future, government supervision, passing more laws and regulations, penalizing the engineers who do not act ethically and professionally are necessary, but, not enough. To him, the main preventing factor is to educate and constantly update professional practicing engineers. Later in October 15th, 2014, his thought was supported by the recommendation released by Honorable Paul R. Belanger, the commissioner of Elliot Lake inquiry, on his report, recommendation 1.24:

“By the support of this recommendation, I then saw the possibility of an educational hub that will mind the gap between professional knowledge and obtain the engineering education into a practical skill. With a fast speed of knowledge, research, and skills development, continuing professional education is a need these days for engineers who are out of school. CivilTech is here to answer that need by offering PRACTICAL Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs.

In addition to professional continuing programs from engineers and architects, CivilTech offers programs for recently graduates and newcomer engineers to Canada. Obtaining the Canadian professional engineering license, called PEng, is a big step ahead for engineers willing to work in Canada. Unique application procedure, technical (engineering topics) and professional (law and ethics) exams-interviews, and acceptable engineer work experience make this process sometimes difficult for recently graduates or newcomer engineers. CivilTech consulting team and exam preparation programs are available to our clients during their P.Eng. application process.”
